We provide you with an inflatable board, paddle, safety leash, buoyancy aid, pump and a rucksack which also has wheels. Additional equipment can be purchased for example:
Wetsuits - £5 per wetsuits
12v Pump £5 per booking
Swimwear or any clothing you don’t mind getting wet, Footwear, such as swim shoes or old trainers are also a must as many of our lake shores are very rocky underfoot making it an unpleasant walk into the shallow waters in barefoot.
Suitable additional items depending on the weather for example warm hats, layers underneath waterproofs, hats and sun cream may also be required.
Wetsuits can be hired from us at an additional cost of £5 per day.
Valuables, such as car keys and phone, will obviously need to be protected, so a dry sack/waterproof bag and waterproof phone case is needed.
Drinks and snacks are also a great essential to take with you, especially if heading out on longer expeditions.
Don't Forget to pack dry clothes, dry shoes and a towel.
Yes of course you can. Paddle boarding is a very safe activity and requires a basic understanding which can be found in some of our supporting videos on our website. We also include a information pack with each paddle board that has lots of information in.
We are open 7 days a week, but require at least 48 hours notice, so we have time to deliver you boards to your address the night before your hire.

Yes we deliver free within 15 miles of our office at CA25. Anything outside 15 miles an additional cost is applied to your booking. See our pricing section for details.
We don't do half day hire, but we do evening hire which is collection only from Cleator Moor (CA25).

Book online via our booking page. A Payable invoice/link is sent to your email address which needs paid immediately. We accept card payments.
Bookings must be made at least 48 hours in advance to ensure availability.
It is important that you can swim at least 50m. We provide a buoyancy aid that helps you keep a float whilst swimming to your paddle board or shoreline. It is important that you keep your safety leash around your ankle and buoyancy aid on while using our equipment on the water.
Explore The Lakes may need to cancel or amend you booking if the Lake district weather is too bad before your hire commences, in this case we will contact you with some alternative dates or a refund. If adverse weather happens while out paddle boarding please remain kneeling and paddle to the waters edge for safety.
Yes and no. Some lakes require a permit for example - Loweswater, Buttermere and Crummock require a permit which can be bought from local carparks. Bassenwaite lake permit is payable online. Derwent Water and Wastwater require no permit to paddle board.
Children 10 years and older are more than welcome to have a go on our individual boards as long as a responsible adult is with them on the water paddle boarding.
Small children can be used on the individual boards (1 adult + 1 child). For safety reasons children must also be in front of the adult whilst on the board wearing a buoyancy aid.
The sort answer is no. We have had damage to our boats due to Dogs in the past which leads to additional costs to us.

Once paid via a payable invoice/link a voucher will be sent to your email address. Vouchers are valid for 12 months.
To use your voucher please contact us at info@explorethelakes.co.uk or via our contact page with you voucher ID and preferred date and we will book you in.
